Exploring Salvation

Statement of Beliefs

  • Ultimately, belief that the Scriptures are the word of Elohim is a matter of faith. (1)
  • The Scriptures are Elohim's recorded revelation to mankind. (2)
  • The Scriptures are without error regarding both the physical and the spiritual. (3)
  • The central theme of the Scriptures is Elohim's relationship with mankind. (4)
  • The Scriptures contain many prophecies and revelations of the Messiah and His work. (5)
  • The Scriptures must be fulfilled and continue until Heaven and Earth pass away. (6)
  • The Scriptures guide us in truth, righteousness, worship, and understanding of life. (7)

Additional Comments

1. Faith

While comments about Scripture are made within the Scriptures themselves, these cannot be used as proof of the Scriptures being what they claim to be since they act as a witness of themselves. However, these statements do guide us in understanding the purpose of the Scriptures.

2. Recorded

Which books are included in a Canon of Scripture is separate from having faith in what the Scriptures state. It can be specifically noted that there is not another set of laws or traditions handed down from Moses that was unwritten.

3. Inerrancy

The Scriptures are considered to be without error only in the original language(s). It is certainly noted that errors can appear when translating from one language into another. Over time, science and history tend to prove that the Scriptures are accurate in what they report.

4. Relationship

The relationship(s) in Scripture come primarily through covenants. The covenant covering most of Scripture is the Sinai Covenant found in the books of Moses and whose recorded history makes up the remainder of Scripture.

5. Messiah

Because man is unable to keep the covenants, the Messiah also becomes a central focus of the Scriptures in maintaining these relationships.

7. Truth

Because the Scriptures are authoritative, mankind should not add to them, take away from them, or change what they say.

Written Words

(Ex 24:3-4)

And Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD, and all the judgments: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which the LORD hath said will we do. {4} And Moses wrote all the words of the LORD, and rose up early in the morning, and builded an altar under the hill, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel.

(Deu 31:9-13)

And Moses wrote this law, and delivered it unto the priests the sons of Levi, which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and unto all the elders of Israel. {10} And Moses commanded them, saying, At the end of every seven years, in the solemnity of the year of release, in the feast of tabernacles, {11} When all Israel is come to appear before the LORD thy God in the place which he shall choose, thou shalt read this law before all Israel in their hearing. {12} Gather the people together, men, and women, and children, and thy stranger that is within thy gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear the LORD your God, and observe to do all the words of this law: {13} And that their children, which have not known any thing, may hear, and learn to fear the LORD your God, as long as ye live in the land whither ye go over Jordan to possess it.

(Deu 31:24)

And it came to pass, when Moses had made an end of writing the words of this law in a book, until they were finished,

Commandments

(Mat 5:17-18)

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. {18} For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Speak of Messiah

(Mat 21:42)

Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes? [Quotes Ps 118:22-23]

(Mat 26:53-56)

Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? {54} But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be? {55} In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me. {56} But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.

(Mark 12:10-11)

And have ye not read this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner: {11} This was the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

(Mark 12:24-25)

And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God? {25} For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.

(Mark 14:48-49)

And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me? {49} I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled.

(Luke 4:17-21)

And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, {18} The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, {19} To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. {20} And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. {21} And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

(Luke 24:27)

And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

(Luke 24:32)

And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?

(Luke 24:44-45)

And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. {45} Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

(John 5:39)

Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

(John 2:22)

When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.

(John 7:37-38)

In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. {38} He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

(John 7:41-42)

Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee? {42} Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?

(John 10:34-36)

Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? {35} If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; {36} Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?

(John 13:18-19)

I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me. {19} Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.

(John 17:12-13)

While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. {13} And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.

(John 19:24)

They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.

(John 19:28-30)

After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. {29} Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a sponge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. {30} When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

(John 19:36-37)

For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken. {37} And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.

(John 20:8-9)

Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed. {9} For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.

(Acts 1:15-20)

And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,) {16} Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus. {17} For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry. {18} Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out. {19} And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood. {20} For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishopric let another take.

(Acts 8:30-35)

And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? {31} And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him. {32} The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth: {33} In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth. {34} And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man? {35} Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

(Acts 17:2-3)

And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures, {3} Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.

Other Passages

(Mark 15:27-28)

(2 Tim 3:16)

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

(Dan 10:20-21)

Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince of Grecia shall come. {21} But I will show thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your prince.

(Mat 22:29)

Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
