Disciplines of Worship: Standard Simplicity
Simplicity in Life
Simplicity Simplicity is an important element in the modern world. Understanding simplicity enables a person to place priorities and possessions in proper order. It allows a person to discern between the important and the urgent and to realize what is complicating life needlessly. It produces time to use with Scripture and the Almighty.
Priorities Simplicity causes us to put our priorities in order. We do not want to have so many activities cluttering our lives that we are bogged down and do not have time for what is important. Neither do we want to deprive ourselves of living life by doing only duty and responsibility. It is prideful to go for more than one can handle and it is prideful to think one has no needs. Simplicity is having a life rather than having a life-style which cannot last.
Possessions Simplicity also causes us to put our possessions in order. In the life of a Beliver, possessions are not supposed to be a concern to us. We do not want material things to take over our lives or allow the desire for them to cause us to make bad decisions. Neither do we want to create a forced march in which we deny ourselves everything but the essential needs of life. To be attached to physical things is a form of idolatry. To renounce physical things can be legalistic. We should look for what is genuinely beneficial and what we can honestly use. The Almighty provides what we need when we need it. We should be ready to give and be able to pass something on to others when they need it.
