Disciplines of Worship: Powerful Prayer
Working in Prayer
Prayer is the greatest form of worship. When we speak to the Almighty, we are working in the spiritual. This is directly in contrast to attempting our own actions in the physical. Seeking His solution to our problems shows how much greater are His ways than ours.
Whatever the reason we come before the Almighty in prayer, we should be ready to act on the response we receive. In other words, why pray if we do not expect anything to happen? Also, we should be coming before the Almighty and speak from our heart (from love) and not because of duty. We should leave room for the many ways He can respond to a situation. For example, requesting money to pay a bill is less mature and more confining than asking to be enabled to fulfill the obligation. Although we can pray throughout the day and in any circumstance, regular private prayer time away from physical distraction is important.
The Use of Prayer
We can come before Him for things we do not understand, important decisions in life, little things in life, or a request for miraculous power. When doing so, we should recognize the difference between a need and a want. As His servants, we should expect our genuine needs to be met and our desires to be considered.
How else could we better help a person than to pray for them? When praying for other people, we will see that they respond on many different levels.
